In general, yes. Veteran status by itself does not exempt anyone from property taxes. Where the answer can change is a service-connected disability rating, and even then it varies a lot. Property tax exemptions for disabled veterans are set at the state level, not federally by the VA. Whether you get one, and how large it is, depends on your state's rules and on how that state recognizes your rating. Some states offer a full exemption at a 100% disability rating, others provide a partial reduction that scales with the rating, and the specifics differ from one state to the next. Confirm the current rules with your state and county, since these programs are adjusted over time. One practical note for budgeting a purchase: if you are counting on a disabled-veteran exemption to make a home affordable, verify how and when it applies before you rely on it. Some exemptions take effect only after you file and are approved, and a few are prorated based on when you close, so the savings may not show up on your very first bill.
