Mostly true. Seller costs typically come out of your proceeds through escrow at closing, so you are not writing checks along the way. The costs come off the top of what the sale generates rather than out of your bank account. The usual exception is repairs. If you agree to do work as part of the negotiation and the contractor wants to be paid before escrow closes, that payment comes out of pocket. Most contractors are willing to wait and get paid through escrow, but not all of them, so it depends on who you hire and how the timing lines up. Recent termite work for one of us was paid straight through escrow at no out-of-pocket cost, though some separate repairs done ahead of closing were paid directly. One contrast worth flagging, since it trips people up: buyers usually do pay certain costs out of pocket before closing, inspections and the appraisal being the common ones. The general rule holds well for sellers, with repairs as the main thing to watch.
