And an accepted offer is a long way from a closed sale. The buyer under contract still holds contingencies (financing, inspection, and appraisal among them), and any one of those can let them walk. A seller wants a backup lined up rather than starting over from zero. If you liked the house, being on that list costs you nothing. Go a step further and ask to submit a formal backup offer, which puts you in a defined contractual position instead of a name on a notepad. And keep looking in the meantime. There is no guarantee the first deal unwinds, and the worst outcome would be putting your search on hold for a house that closes to someone else.
