Can you get a mortgage on a foreclosed home?

Usually yes. Once a foreclosure is bank-owned and listed, you can typically finance it like any other home. When a foreclosure completes and the property goes back to the bank, the bank usually hires real estate agents to list it, often on the MLS, and generally makes sure it is in sellable enough condition that a buyer can finance it. A bank-owned (REO) home on the MLS can usually be bought with a mortgage like any other listing. The hard cases are properties that never make it back to the bank. Courthouse-auction sales are difficult to acquire unless you are a cash investor ready to buy as-is with no financing contingency. Two realistic expectations. Foreclosures tend to be a small share of overall transactions, and the ones with real value-add potential get bought quickly, frequently by investors. So treat finding one as a bonus rather than a plan. If a foreclosure does come up, your agent can confirm early whether the listing is set up to accept financed offers before you write.
